The aim of the Grand Orient de France is to be a Laboratory of ideas, work being the basis of the method by which its members can progress.

  Introduction

Its Ideas

Where it can be found

The way it is organised

For his own personal improvment, a Freemason has at his disposal a teaching method which will enable him to learn how to argue logically and which is close to arguing by analogy, a method which makes use of the interpretation of symbols. The symbols used are those of its predecessors, the cathedral builders, the set square, compasses and the Fremason goes through the same degrees as the original builders : Apprentice, Companion and Master.

In order to work towards a perfect society, every year the Lodges of the Grand Orient de France study several subjects taken from current affairs, social or economic questions chosen by the Annual General Assembly, the Convent, and the following year a summary on the debates is given to the Convent.

These 950 Lodges throughout France and world composed of people from different horizons - professionally, socially, culturally, philosophically, politically - enables us to have the most credible views possible and make suggestions for improvments which are often brought into force in the country within a few months.

The great social strenght of Freemasonry is the strenght of its proposals which are the fruit of the collaboration of all the Lodges.
